Ahiru has a dream of dancing a pas de deux with a handsome prince and wakes up late. She runs to the ballet studio, but no one else is there except for a handsome boy. Ahiru wonders if he's the prince from her dreams. While admiring his dancing, she falls over and hurts her ankle. The boy, Mytho, helps her up, but then another boy, Fakir, appears and takes Mytho away. After the boys are gone, Ahiru's friends Mai and Yuma arrive for class, telling her that she’s actually early.

After school, Ahiru is walking in town when she finds a new ballet shop. While she admires a tutu in the front window, the shopkeeper Edel invites her in. Since she is her first customer, Edel gives Ahiru a pendant resembling an egg with wings.

The next day, Ahiru sees Mytho going somewhere by himself. She follows him to the lake behind the school, and the pendant starts glowing. Suddenly a giant fish jumps out of the water and prepares to attack Mytho. Ahiru wants to save him, and the pendant transforms her into Princess Tutu. With the magic of her dancing, turns the monster back into a normal fish. She finds that the fish has swallowed a shard of Mytho’s heart, which she returns to him.

Later, Ahiru wakes up by the lake with Mytho watching her. Her ankle still hurts, so he helps her up again. Suddenly Fakir arrives in search of Mytho and interrupts their moment. As the boys leave, Ahiru reflects on becoming Princess Tutu and wonders if it was all a dream.
